Original item: One of a Kind. Over the years, IMA has purchased many collections and groups of antique guns, in which case we need to take all of them, as we did in Nepal. While these collections were generally full of guns that relatively good condition, they also had some that were less complete and unfortunately would take more restoration time than we were able to give them. We kept them in storage, possibly for future products, but have now decided to offer these "As Found" antique firearms to our customers as restoration projects. These are all original and as we received them, except for cleaning the dirt and grime off the exterior.
Please note that these are still real antique guns, and are being sold in "As is" condition at a significant discount from what they would sell at if we were to fully restore them. We will do our best to photograph and describe them and know that our customers will know exactly what they are getting. Some of these, such as this example, look to have possibly been project or parts guns, and are missing a significant amount of parts. These are being sold in "Grade 2" condition, and on these ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Here we have a very nice Grade 2 "As Found" set of two Nickel-Plated Double Action revolvers, both chambered in what we believe is .32 Smith & Wesson Black Powder. The late 19th century was a very big time for these smaller revolvers that fit nicely in a pocket, and both of these features "safety hammer" designs, which have no hammer spur that could catch on clothing. One in fact has the hammer entirely enclosed in the frame.
The first pistol is an Iver Johnson 1st Model Safety Hammer Automatic Revolver, made in either 1894 or 1895. It is a top break design, and has only a single lever for the top latch, along with the correct patent markings for a 1st Model, which are mostly clear
PAT'D. APR.6.86. FEB.15.87. MAY 10.87. DEC.26.93 PAT'S [PENDING]
There were two variations of this model, and we are unfortunately not able to tell which one it is. However it is marked on the bottom of the grip with serial number 36965, which is relatively low, so we assume that it is a 1st variation. There were 100,000 of the 1st variation made in 1894, with 50,000 of the 2nd variation made in 1895. After this, the 2nd model would appear, which had a B letter prefix before the serial number.
The second pistol we have is a Harrington and Richardson Vest Pocket Safety Hammer revolver, which is quite small, and marked correctly on the top of the frame:
VEST POCKET
SAFETY HAMMER
It is marked on the bottom of the grip with serial number 180292, which is definitely low compared to other examples we have seen. These small inexpensive revolvers were manufactured in very large quantities.
Condition Notes:
- Both Revolvers currently have issues with cycling.
- Nickel Plating is relatively well retained on Both.
- Bores still show clear rifling, with some past fouling and oxidation.
